AS/A2 Further Maths

We follow the EDEXCEL specification and we encourage a more investigational approach.  We are a member of the Further Maths Network which organises and encourages collaborative working between other local centres offering this A Level. Further Maths will occupy slightly fewer timetables lessons than other subjects as you will be taking Maths alongside.

Where does it lead?

Follow a degree in Maths – increasingly universities are requiring Further Maths to get a place on these courses

To stand out from the crowd when applying for a degree in a related subject e.g. medicine, physics, astronomy, engineering, robotics etc

Will be invaluable for scientific/business degrees, courses and work practice.

Solve problems logically and communicate an argument.

Why you should study Further Maths?

  • You have also chosen to take AS & A2 Mathematics.
  • You enjoy the subject and want to take it further.
  • You are very good at mathematics and enjoy solving difficult problems.
  • You would like to study Maths or engineering or a related degree at University.
  • Further Maths is sometimes a requirement for degrees in Maths or those with a strong element of maths.
  • A Level Maths and Further Maths can lead you into any field at degree or in employment, for example, Actuarial, Accountancy, Business and Finance, Surveying, Engineering, Information Technology, Environmental, Education, Scientific.

What skills do I need to be successful in this subject?

  • All skills required in Maths A Level are also required in Further Maths but to a higher degree.
  • Excellent algebraic manipulation skills.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to pick up and understand new concepts quickly.
