You will gain a broad introduction to legal principles and approaches. It will develop techniques of logical thinking. You will develop a critical awareness of the changing nature of law in society.

Where does it lead?

You can progress onto university courses in law leading to vocational training as a solicitor, barrister, legal assistant, legal secretary or careers in the police force. In addition law is an excellent complement to a wide range of arts and social science subjects.

Why you should study Law?

Law will help you to...

  • Develop an understanding of legal method and reasoning.
  • Analyse and solve legal problems by applying legal rules.
  • Communicate legal arguments and conclusions with reference to appropriate legal authority.

What skills do I need to be successful in this subject?

An interest in the law in society today.  A willingness to develop an analytical approach and to develop you’re a precise, concise and informed written style.

Assessment

Your teaching will combine use of ICT as a resource and a tool, legal case studies and literature with a range of teaching styles (discussion, presentation and lecture). Assessment is through external written examinations primarily though essay writing.

Enrichment Activities

There will be a number of trips to Courts of Law.
