Where does it lead? For students who wish to progress to degree level qualifications in music, this course offers ideal opportunities. The experience of interacting with music from a wide range of time and place, through the Areas of Study, will provide them with a broad and satisfying musical experience with valuable new insights. Why you should study Music? By studying Music, you will be stimulated , motivated, and challenged. You will enjoy the flexible specification, where you can perform and compose in a style to suit you. You will enjoy performing with others, and participating in concerts / events in school and the Community. You will gain a wealth of knowledge in a wide range of musical styles, and you will enjoy exploring and analysing these works in depth. You will develop your creative skills, and have opportunities to celebrate these achievements. Students who have higher level performing skills will have opportunities for stretch and challenge activities, which will prepare them thoroughly for performing at Degree Level. What skills do I need to be successful in this subject? You need to play a musical instrument at grade 5 level, or above. You need Music Theory skills, preferably at grade 5 level. Assessment Coursework under controlled conditions. Examination structure and questions. Enrichment Activities Students will have opportunities to perform during the course. They will also be encouraged to participate in Music Festivals, and will have opportunities to visit concerts/musical productions. Preparing for Study Grout: A History of Western Music. Read through from Renaissance to the present day, making notes on specific genres and composers. Listen to as much music as possible, and keep a diary. Other Information Students will use the New Anthology of Music and Riemenschneider Bach Chorales. Access to notation software is of great advantage, for composing. |
