What is Spanish?

There are more people who speak Spanish as first a language than speak English as a first language. Learn the Spanish language whilst exploring and investigating different aspects of Spanish life and culture.

Develop your knowledge of the Spanish language and you will be able to communicate with people across the world whilst learning more about Hispanic culture.

Why study Spanish?

With 329 million native speakers, Spanish ranks as the world’s second most natively-spoken language. It is slightly ahead of English (328 million). Spanish has at least three million native speakers each in 44 countries, making it the fourth most geographically widely-spoken language behind English.

Given its rich artistic and literary history, studying Spanish at A-Level will not only be interesting, it will also enhance your other arts-based subjects. Students can expect to develop all their language skills of listening, speaking, reading, writing and translation.

HEAR FROM OUR STUDENTS

” I enjoy learning Spanish at St Paul’s because you learn it in a variety of different ways and you get to learn and experience Hispanic culture ”

Johan Carrillo Buitrago (Y13)

“Spanish A-Level feels like a welcoming community, since we have such a small class, and it gives us a lot of time to focus and get through the lessons efficiently, while also being supported by our peers and teachers.”

Uyanda Gushu former Y13

I have been enjoying learning about Spanish film and literature which has introduced me into the depths of Spanish culture. They explore a variety of themes and hidden meanings which are great fun to explore.”

Gina Capaldi-Drewett former Y13

“Not only has Spanish expanded my level of vocabulary so much further than I ever thought, but the most interesting aspect of the course for me is our module topics we explore each lesson. GCSE does not delve as deep into Spanish culture as A Level does. I find myself passionate about social and political issues not only in Spain, but also the world.”

Heather Clarke former Y13
