Sixth Form students are actively encouraged to join in with the many extra-curricular activities in the college. The Sports Academy is a fantastic opportunity for students to receive professional  standard coaching, have a competitive element against local colleges and to maintain a healthy lifestyle whilst sustaining their academic standards. There are highly successful teams for football, netball and basketball. The academy has their own training and playing kit to help enhance that club feel. The annual school show, termly performance shows and the ongoing jazz band and choir are further opportunities for Sixth Form students to continue their interests. Our Senior Prefect Team, as well as our mentors and reading assistants are great ways for students to develop their leadership whilst in Sixth Form.

We actively encourage all sixth form students to get involved with college activities beyond their academic courses to help ensure that they have a truly rounded and varied experience during their time at college. Demonstrating dedication to an extra curricular activity as a sixth former has multiple benefits. Regularly taking part in a contrasting activity to academic lessons can help to improve pupil wellbeing, develop time management and enhance teamwork skills.

Sport & Physical Education

Our sixth form boys football team have an excellent track record at a county level. Training takes place on Wednesday afternoons, coached by Deputy Headteacher, Mr Duffield.

A successful sixth form netball team also enjoy playing other local college teams. We are thrilled to be launching our Sports Academy…..

Beyond sports teams, there are always regular opportunities for sixth formers to get involved with volunteering and working with the rest of the college community  through the Sports Leaders programme.

We also hold an annual Sixth Form Sports Day Event in the Summer Term at the neighbouring Triangle Leisure Centre. This is a lighthearted morning full of fun with events such as skipping races, welly wanging, and egg and spoon – with the winners contributing points to the overall house total for whole school sports day.

PERFORMING ARTS

Every year, the Performing Arts Department stage a large scale musical production in the Spring Term. Recent shows include, Beauty & The Beast, Oliver and Sister Act. Sixth formers interested in any aspect of performing arts are encouraged to get involved. As well as on stage roles, we also have a live student band and a student backstage crew. This provides a wonderful opportunity for sixth form students to collaborate with younger members of the college community and develop their leadership skills as positive role models.

The Music Department co-ordinate half termly concerts for both solo, group and ensemble performances. In the Autumn Term, we encourage sixth form musicians to participate in the Senior Musician of the Year Concert. Showcase Concerts in Winter and Summer also provide a platform for sixth formers to share their talents with appreciative audiences. The Music Department also run overseas tours to Europe, with past trips to Austria and Italy being a huge success.

DUKE OF EDINBURGH

Sixth formers are able to work towards their Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award. This provides students with the opportunity to set personal targets and push outside of their comfort zones by completing the skills, volunteering, physical, expedition and residential parts of this award. Students are able to demonstrate their commitment over a sustained period to achieve their DofE award, something that is always looked upon favourably for both UCAS and job applications.

Student Leadership & Service

Develop Interpersonal Skills & More

We strongly believe that our faith is made real by our actions, therefore we actively encourage sixth formers to develop their leadership skills and independence by engaging in volunteering opportunities within and beyond the College community. All Year 12 students are expected to undertake at least 10 hours of voluntary service.

Our Senior Prefect team are a key group who are able to give back to their College community by speaking at open evenings, visiting other local schools, and working younger members of our College community on the school council. We run a highly successful pastoral mentoring programme, where our sixth formers are trained as mentors to support Key Stage 3 pupils who are in need of extra guidance, a listening ear and a positive role model.

Other volunteering opportunities available in College include assisting with Year 7 reading, sports leadership and helping backstage or front of house with College concerts and productions. Beyond the College community, we have links with the University Hospitals Sussex Trust volunteering department
